Acronyms, Abbreviations & Initialisms
Acronyms and
initialisms are
abbreviations, and are formed using the initial letters of a group of words.
Acronyms in the strict sense are
pronounceable words such as SARS (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome), or WHO (World Health Organisation).
Abbreviations can be printed with or without periods for each letter, depending on your preference, e.g., "A.F.K." or simply as "AFK."
